2019 China international e-commerce expo attracts unprecedented participants

YIWU, China:  The 2019 China International E-Commerce Expo and Digital Trade Expo concluded here on Friday as 159505 participants from 35 countries and regions visited and negotiated at the expo, showcasing an increase of 5.0 percent year on year.

The three-day exhibition was held from April 11 to 13 here at the International Expo Center in Yiwu, Zhejiang Province.

Yiwu is the hub of small commodities and a paradise for e-commerce, and has ranked first among “China’s Top 100 E-Commerce Counties” for four consecutive years.

With the theme of New Era of Digital Trade, New Opportunities for E-commerce, the Expo became the preferred exhibition for e-commerce platform operators, e-commerce operators, internet celebrities, and search links for all the major brands.

The exhibition hosted eight major exhibition areas, including famous e-commerce platform, digital trade, cross-border e-commerce and rural e-commerce.

There were 2,232 international standard exhibition booths and 50,000 square meters of exhibition space, as exhibitors from 10 countries and territories including the United States, Germany, France, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Colombia, Brazil and 1135 enterprises from 24 provinces (regions and municipalities) of China participated.

With 66.1 percent of the participants from Yiwu City, the foreign exhibitors accounted for 9,5 72.

As many as 136 cross-border e-commerce enterprises including Alibaba, JD, Baidu, IPE, Lanting, Google, Amazon, Lazada, Shopee, Wish, Japan GMO and other well-known e-commerce enterprises also participated in the exhibition.

There were 60,136 cooperative intentions on the ground, up 8.5 percent year-on-year. During the same period, the 2019 World E-commerce Conference planned 28 keynote speeches and two dialogues, with 3,120 participants.

During the Expo, 22 events including the China E-Commerce Innovation Development Summit 2019 and the China E-Commerce Industry Integration Development Summit 2019 were held, with 19,326 participants.

Last year, Yiwu’s trade volume in e-commerce amounted to 236.8 billion yuan; its total EMS volume of business reached 2.9 billion parcels, making the city jump to the fourth place in China. Approved by the State Council, Yiwu is building a national level cross-border e-commerce reform pilot area and has also got approvals from both the provincial government and CPC Zhejiang provincial committee for the framework programme for establishing the pilot region for comprehensive reforms in international trade this year, which will mark the coming new era of development of Yiwu’s e-commerce and new development opportunities for e-commerce expos.

In December 2015, while attending the High-level Dialogue of China-Africa Leaders and Business Representatives and Closing Ceremony of the 5th China-Africa Business Forum, President Xi Jinping had recommended Yiwu as the World’s Capital of Small Commodities.

Yiwu has been awarded a series of honorary titles of national ecological city, national forest city, national model green city, national sanitary city, national model city for environmental protection , national garden city, China’s first international business tourist destination city, and it has been selected as one of Global 100 Resilient Cities.
