ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has submitted his bail application in the cipher case, moments after the special court headed by Judge Abul Hasnat Zulqarnain extended his judicial remand in the case for another 14 days.
The judge heard the case under the Official Secrets Act at the Attock Jail. According to the sources in the PTI’s legal team, three petitions have been filed on behalf of the party chief, including a bail application.
Another application has sought to declare the notification of the jail trial illegal. The petition pleads that the notification to transfer the court to Attock Jail was illegal and demanded the same be annulled. It also challenged the authority vested in the judge of the Anti-Terrorism Court to hear the cases under the Official Secrets Act. The third application seeks open court trial.
The petitions were filed on behalf of the PTI chairman through Sher Afzal Marwat advocate. The petitioned named the law secretary, the chief commissioner, home secretary, the police chief, and the FIA director general as respondents. The superintendents of Adiyala and Attock Jails were also made parties in the petitions.
