Karachi to offer affordable, environment-friendly cab service

ISLAMABAD, Nov 30 (INP-WealthPK) — Sindh Minister for Information, Transport, and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon has declared that a latest, reasonably priced, and environmentally friendly electric taxi service will soon be introduced in Karachi and expanded to other significant cities in the province.

Speaking to the media, he stated that discussions on the electric taxi service project are in progress and that the Sindh government is working diligently on it. He added that the project will soon be completed.

The city’s current online cab services charge very expensive rates, so the Sindh government is working to provide an affordable taxi service to the citizens, he said.

The government has instructed that the pace of work be sped up on all ongoing public transport projects in Karachi in order to address the city’s long-standing transportation issue, he said. According to him, the city has begun to invest billions of rupees in public transportation projects.

The Sindh Mass Transit Authority is working round the clock to expand the city’s bus fleet and upgrade the transportation system. He said that the 22-kilometer BRT Red Line project is progressing quickly and all encroachments on the BRT Red Line project’s route will be demolished. The Karachi authorities have been given a week to do so.

He said that Pakistan’s first biogas-powered project, the BRT Red Line, was inaugurated with the help from the Asian Development Bank. In this context, work will shortly begin on the first biogas plant in Pakistan.

He said that Sindh has the distinction of launching Pakistan’s first electric bus service, and that the work is already underway on the BRT Red Line, which would operate on environmentally friendly biogas.

He said that the Orange Line and People’s Bus Services have been launched by the Sindh Transport Department. The city’s electric bus service will soon begin operating, he added.

He said that the BRT Yellow Line project, conducted with the assistance of the World Bank, is nearing completion and that the construction work will soon begin.

All major cities in the world, according to him, have cutting-edge public transportation systems, including BRT services, he said. The government of Sindh is working to establish a modern public transportation system in Karachi, the country’s financial center he added.

The minister said the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) is a long pending project, and it has now been added to the CPEC projects with the efforts of the Sindh government.
