ISLAMABAD, May 12 (EW): Islamabad police arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shireen Mazari in the wee hours of Friday.
Imaan Hazir-Mazari, the daughter of Mazari, shared a video on Twitter that showed men in civvies forcefully entering Mazari’s home in Islamabad to take the former minister for human rights into custody.
Another video popped up on Twitter showing female police officials whisking Mazari away in a vehicle. As she was being bundled int a police vehicle, the former minister raised a victory sign, declaring “victory for democracy”. She also condemned the “state terrorism” as unacceptable.
Shortly before posting the video, Iman Mazari said in a teet that approximately 50 policemen carrying weapons had entered their residence.
The PTI said on Twitter their their senior vice-president Dr Shireen Mazari was abducted by police after they entered her residence with guns, in a new low. Extremely shameful.
Meanwhile, leader Dr Yasmin Rashid was arrested by Lahore police.
According to the spokesman for Punjab police, more than 2560 ‘miscreants’ have been arrested so far on charges of attacks, vandalism, violence and arson on public and private institutions across the province.
PTI leader Dr Yasmin Rashid was arrested from the Cavalry Ground in Lahore this morning.
According to PTI leader Andleeb Abbas, Dr Yasmin Rashid’s husband was also arrested two days ago but was released after his health deteriorated. Dr Yasmin’s brother-in-law, who was also arrested earlier, is still in custody, she said.
The arrests come a day after Supreme Court declared party leader and former prime minister Imran Khan’s arrest unlawful.
The Supreme Court directed the National Accountability Bureau to present Imran Khan in the Islamabad High Court in the Al-Qadir Trust case.
