ISLAMABAD, Mar 29 (EW): An additional district and sessions court in Islamabad on Wednesday issued non-bailable arrest warrants for former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan in the judge threats case.
Civil Judge Malik Aman pronounced the verdict and dismissed the PTI chief’s plea seeking exemption for his personal appearance in the case.
The judge directed police to produce Imran Khan in court on April 18.
The case
In a speech on August 20, 2022, Imran had criticised the police as well as the judiciary over the alleged custodial torture of PTI member Shahbaz Gill and announced that his party would file cases against additional district and sessions judge Zeba Chaudhry, Islamabad Police Inspector General (IGP) Dr Akbar Nasir Khan and the DIG.
Initially, the PTI chief was booked under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA). Meanwhile, Islamabad High Court (IHC) also initiated contempt of court proceedings against the ex-premier.
A month later, the IHC removed the terrorism charges against Imran and also pardoned him after he tendered an apology.
However, a similar case is pending before the sessions court, which was filed after the registration of a first information report (FIR) against him for making threatening remarks against the judge
