ISLAMABAD, Dec. 02 (INP-WealthPK): Pakistan and Malaysia have agreed to increase cooperation in areas of strategic technologies like 5G, Cyber Security and Regulatory Frameworks.

The agreement was reached in principle during a meeting between the Chairman of PTA Amir Azeem Bajwa, and Interim Chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), Tan Sri Mohamad Salim bin Fateh Din.

Members of the meeting discussed the strategic importance of emerging technologies and deliberated on the framework needed for their adoption and regulatory standards.

Chairman of the MCMC, Tan Sri Mohamad appreciated the pace at which digital technologies were adopted in Pakistan.

He also briefed the meeting on Malaysia’s flagship projects PEDi (digital empowerment of rural communities) and 5G network model called “Single Wholesale Network.”

The meeting was a continuation of past efforts by the two departments to increase cooperation in the fields of emerging technologies. It is expected that a non-binding agreement will also be signed in this regard very soon.

Like the PTA in Pakistan, MCMC is the public regulator of communications and multimedia industry in Malaysia.

The meeting was also attended by Member (Finance) PTA, Muhammad Naveed; Commission Member MCMC, Datuk Lim Thean Shian; former High Commissioner of Pakistan to Malaysia, Tahir Mehmood Qazi and other MCMC and PTA officials.
