GWADAR, Mar.5 (INP): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has pledged substantial aid to the victims of the recent flash floods in Gwadar, announcing a comprehensive relief package during his inaugural visit to the affected region on Tuesday, Gwadar Pro reported.
He declared that households completely ravaged by the floods will receive Rs750,000 each, with an additional Rs350,000 allocated for those with partial damages.
Families who tragically lost loved ones in the calamity will be granted Rs2 million, while the injured will receive Rs500,000 each.
During his address to the public and media in Gwadar, Shehbaz Sharif assured that all announced funds would swiftly reach the affected individuals within four days. Notably, this relief extends beyond Balochistan to other rain-affected areas across the country.
In further support, the Prime Minister announced the provision of 7,000 ration bags daily to the Balochistan government until all displaced residents can safely return home. Additionally, he acknowledged the significant financial losses incurred by the people, promising the reimbursement of Rs400 million for damages such as the destruction of 83 boats.
Expressing concern over the loss of life nationwide due to recent rains, Sharif disclosed that 44 individuals had lost their lives while 46 others, including children and the elderly, sustained injuries. He emphasized the need for improved disaster preparedness, directing authorities to utilize satellite imagery for early detection and warning systems.
The Prime Minister also instructed for a thorough assessment of private property damage and the formulation of a comprehensive rehabilitation plan for affected communities. Meanwhile, the Balochistan government has declared a state of emergency and designated Gwadar as a disaster zone in response to the catastrophic floods.
Furthermore, with the assistance of the Pakistan Army and district administration, free medical camps have been set up in Gwadar to provide essential healthcare services to those in need.
