RAWALPINDI, July 07( EW):  The emergency response service, Rescue-1122 – fully equipped to cope with the expected flood in Nullah Lai – has been put on high alert to respond to possible emergencies.

A spokesperson for Rescue-1122 stated that the rescuers posted in low-lying areas, in particular Katarian, Gawalmandi, Sowan, and other areas, would maintain a high state of alert around the clock to provide prompt emergency response, medical care, and transportation facilities to potential flood victims.

During the flood, Rescue-1122 has also urged residents of low-lying regions along Nullah Lai to refrain from standing on the banks and to heed any directions from the relevant departments. He continued, “But the administration had also finished all the preparations to deal with the flood situation.”

Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA), under the orders of the Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Liaquat Ali Chatha, finished the cleaning work of Nullah Lai, according to a district administration spokesman.

The minor drains were also cleaned to ensure smooth water flow in the Nullah Lai during monsoon rains. A representative for WASA Rawalpindi reported that the Agency had finished a special campaign to clear wastewater lines and employed winch machines to clean the lines at the Punjab government’s request completely.

According to him, special preparations were made after the Meteorological Department issued a warning about monsoon rains that were heavier than usual. He also stated that WASA had launched an emergency operation to clean sewerage lines with modern winch machines, which had been introduced to clean the sewer lines completely.

The official said that during visits to various locations, Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Liaquat Ali Chatha and Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi Hasan Waqar Cheema had also examined the cleaning of the sewage pipes.

He stated that Section-144 had been implemented around Nulla Lai and that anyone seen discharging trash and other solid waste in Nulla Lai against the wishes of the district administration would face harsh punishment. He added that WASA had completed the Monsoon 2023 plan, which, as with every year, includes an examination of WASA machinery, the cleaning of sewerage lines, and the annual cleaning of Nullah Lai.
